Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Burna Boy has achieved yet another career milestone. The “Ye” singer’s album "African Giant" has gone BRIT Certified Silver on Friday, September 18, 2020. This is a huge success for the artiste, Afrobeat, and Africa as a whole. The BRIT Certified Silver accolade is the first such certification for a Nigerian album in the United Kingdom. Burna Boy’s “African Giant” was released in July 2019 and has been on the upward trend ever since. The award-winning album features songs like “Anybody", "On the Low”, “Show and Tell” featuring Future, “Spiritual”, “Pull Up” and “Different” featuring multiple Grammy Award-winning, Jamaican reggae artiste Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley.
Things are buzzing for the Afrobeat, Dancehall, and Pop Artiste as his new album, "Twice as Tall", released on August 14, 2020, ranked #8 on the Billboard World Album Chart earlier this week. "Twice as Tall" is Burna Boy’s fifth studio album. In August, the album had 175.3 million streams across all streaming platforms: 18.4 million on Apple Music (Africa), 25 million on YouTube, 50.2 million on Audio Mack, 34.5 million on Spotify, as well as 31 million and 10.5 million on Apple Music (World) and Boomplay, respectively.
Adding to his growing list of accomplishments, Stormzy’s “Own It” featuring Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy has gone BRIT Certified 2x Platinum.
Burna Boy performed in April 2020 in the One World: Together at Home special. It was a global broadcast and digital special to support frontline healthcare workers and the World Health Organization due to the increased demands caused by the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the world.
In 2012, Burna Boy who hails from Port Harcourt, Nigeria, exploded on the music scene with his song, "Like To Party" and has since been on an upward trajectory to more success through the delivery of diverse, consistently great music.
