Popular dancehall artiste Laden was today (Dec. 16, 2020) sentenced to four years in prison for gun possession charges to which he had previously pleaded guilty.
Laden, whose given name is Okeefe Aarons was brought before the St. Elizabeth Circuit Court today where he was handed the sentence for illegal possession of a firearm.
He also received an 18-month sentence for illegal possession of ammunition. Both sentences are to run concurrently, which means he will end up serving only four years in prison.
The St. Elizabeth police report that about 10:40 PM on October 28, lawmen were on duty in Cheapside District, St. Elizabeth, when they signalled the driver of a black Mercedes-Benz motor car to stop.
The driver initially obeyed the signal, then sped off when the lawmen approached the motor car. It resulted in a chase during which an object was seen being thrown from the sunroof of the motor car.
The object turned out to be a firearm.
Laden who was found to be the driver and two other male passengers were subsequently arrested and charged for gun possession.
Laden rose to prominence in the late 2000s and is known for hit songs such as 'Working Hard', 'Money Over War', 'Time To Shine', and 'Feelings Too Heavy'.
